Some Blog Lovin

While I was away from Blog Land I received a nomination for the Versatile Blogger Award from the lovely Miss Simmonds Says

Thank you to the lovely Miss Simmonds for including me & for following my blog. Your support is much appreciated.

Here's what I have to do:

After receiving the award there are several rules to follow:-
You should pass it on to 15 recently discovered blogs and let the bloggers know they have been nominated. Then you have to share 7 things about yourself. Finally thank the award giver and link back to them.

I think with my 5 Liebster blog awards below, I will pass this onto 10 blogs that I enjoy following (among the many I follow).

Here are 7 random things about myself.

1. I am the daughter of a Baptist Minister.....& as a child I set out to prove that I wasn't a goody two shoes which got me into LOTS of trouble!

2. I hate hearing people swallow.

3. I knew at the age of 13 that I would marry Mr P. I told him so & he didn't agree at the time, but obviously came around to the idea some years later & I was married at the tender age of 19. The best thing I ever did!

4. I studied to be a Drama & English teacher at Griffith University.

5. I broke my thumb walking into church one day when I tripped down the aisle in front of everyone.

6. I went to an all girls school where we wore hats, gloves & stockings everyday....even in the hot Queensland Summer.

7. My feet seem far too small for my body. We call them my pigs trotters. I can't really walk in high heels after tearing a tendon in my foot some years ago (maybe it was something to do with my feet being too small to carry my weight Lol) it's boring & sensible shoes for me.

I also want to say a big thank you to Sweet Caroline over at Things I Do for passing the Liebster Blog Award onto me. Caroline writes a darling blog about her op shop finds & her clever handmade creations...and we seem to share a love of birds & accessories too.

Here's some background about the award:
The idea is to give the award to a blog you enjoy and follow that has less than 100 followers.

The rules are:
1. Copy and paste the award on your blog.
2. Thank the giver and link back to them.
3. Reveal your top 5 picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.

It wasn't easy choosing 5 out of the many blogs that I follow, but here are a selection of blogs that I enjoy reading....mostly for their love of all things vintage & their thrifting expertise! Feel free to pop on over & take a look.

1. The Secondhand Years because this gal knows how to rock a vintage maxi frock!

2. A Treasured Past who certainly has a wonderful collection of treasures.

3.  One Denim Bird because I hope to be the proud owner of one of her amazing handmade frocks one day!

4. Polkadots & Spinning Tops who shares my love of op shopping in Dunedin.

5. Boo Love Vintage because I have a soft spot for Christchurch bloggers who look fabulous in vintage.

So thank you again Things I know I would have nominated you had you not nominated me, but I got you back with the Versatile Blogger Award.

Holiday Thrifted Finds

I always love having a look through op shops while I'm on holidays. The anticipation of wonderful treasure keeps me at it, although I found the Sunshine Coast op shops to be a bit disappointing this year. Caloundra is a place full of retired folk, so you would expect a fair amount of vintage clothing to be donated....but I am yet to discover where the vintage goodies end up. I discovered an op shop that was packed full of stuff & dirt cheap. I think it would have to be a new favourite of mine & definitely worth a visit. Salvos at Maroochydore have opened a little vintage shop within the main op shop. It's only opened on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Saturdays. It is packed full of vintage, retro & antique items, but the prices can be a bit steep for an op shop. I felt like I didn't find many treasures while we were away, but I guess when I took photos of it all I realized I did okay after all.

This was my one & only vintage clothing purchase. A frock from Caloundra Salvos for $7. It reminds me of something my Mum would have worn in the late 1970's. It comes to mid calf so I'm trying to decide whether to take up the hem or not?

A few ornaments to add to my collection.

I am not a dog person, but I couldn't pass up this little china doggie for $1 at Lifeline Maroochydore.

A little birdy from Caloundra Vinnies for 50cents.

A bigger double birdy ornament from Warana Lifeline.

I hope to find a frame to put this cute cross stitch in.....20cents.

A couple of embroidered pillowcases for 50cents.

This is an embroidered table runner...... $1

I love this little black tin with cross stitch style flowers for 50cents from Maroochydore Salvos.

Scuffy is my favourite Little Golden Book....reminds me of my childhood & makes me think of my tug boat loving husband.

An old copy of 'Jane Eyre'

A glossy Japanese birdy box for $2.

Back From the Beach

My beloved & I are back from 3 glorious weeks holiday at the beach. We spent 2 weeks at our family 'bach' (as the Kiwi's call it) at Caloundra, plus one delightful week at Noosa. Mr P & I honeymooned at Noosa nearly 18 years ago, so it holds a special place in our hearts. And when the conditions are right, Laguna Bay has to be one of Queensland's best beaches. I did get to visit most of the local op shops, but unfortunately it was much more miss then hit. I don't know where all the good vintage stuff is on the coast, but I am yet to discover a true treasure trove. We were blessed with perfect weather up until last week, so most days were spent swimming, & eating far too much which is never difficult for me. Here's a few photos of our time away. I will post on my thrifted finds this week. I can't say I love being back in the real world, but I am enjoying catching up on all of your blogs now I'm back! Xx

We stayed at 'The Outlook' on Noosa Hill.

We had a freezer chino every day at Aromas on Hasting's such a great spot to people watch.

Some lovely sunsets over Noosa & towards Cooroy from our balcony.

My favourite place to swim....Laguna Bay.

A big storm was brewing over Pumicestone Passage in Caloundra.

I pulled out a vintage frock on Friday of course.

Thoughtful Friends & Holiday Time

Mr P & I are off on our annual summer holiday to the Sunshine Coast. I have picked up a little bit over the past few days (YAY!) & hopefully our time away will do me the world of good. I'm glad to finally be off  the heart monitors too (no results back yet). I had the chance to pop into my fav little op shop (after being de-wired) which reopened today...Oh how I've missed the op shops in the past few weeks. I purchased a mere 4 vintage few compared to my last haul of 18! (I didn't keep them all!) I will show & tell at a later date. I usually don't have computer access while we're away. I know I will really miss reading all of your lovely blogs. But be assured I will be back....commenting & blogging & searching for undiscovered vintage treasures! Thanks so much for all of your lovely responses on past posts & for your care over the past few means a lot to me! Xx

I must admit to making an Ebay purchase during my time home bound, but it was only 99cents which hardly counts does it? It's a green trimmed maxi dress by John J Hilton....It's a Hilton Honey! I can just picture lounging around in this at Noooosa Darling!

I just had to share a pic of the custom bunting that I ordered from the lovely Caroline over at Things I Do....she is so clever & creative. She made double sided bunting with a birdy theme, and she added in this cute birdy brooch. Thank you so much! Xx

The bunting is hanging in our bedroom.

I wanted to thank those dear friends of mine who have phoned or sent messages, & have sent me little parcels of love during the past few yucko weeks. I am so blessed to have some extra special friends in my life, some of whom have suffered with the same illness as me, for as long as I have, & they always seem to know when I need a bit of extra encouragement. So I want to say a big thank you to Miss C, Miss G & Miss S. You girls are some of the bravest I know, & your love & support over the past few weeks has been such a blessing to me.

My dear Miss G from Victoria sent me this parcel of goodies...the retro style top was from a shop in St Kilda. Miss G knows how much I love St Kilda, & the combination of green & pink. She also included a handmade notebook & handmade chocolates, with a birdy wall canvas. Thank you dear Miss G.

My dear Miss C gave me this anodised teapot that belonged to her Grandmother a while back. It is in the prettiest blue, & it is in wonderful condition. Miss C knows I will forever treasure this one. Love you Miss C.

Miss S sent me a sweet little birdy card & a lovely magnet bookmark....which she said reminded her of VintageBirdGirl. Miss S is a very talented artist who designs cards & writes her own blog too called ByShi.
