Thrifted Finds

Here's a few things I've found at my local op shops of late.

My favourite find was this kitsch little vase thing (I'm not too sure what they were used for) from Salvos with a scary looking child & a sweet little deer.

Being a bit partial to an old tin, I found this shabby one at my local Lifeline for $1. It has such a pretty picture on each side.

As most of you know I really don't "need" any more jewellery. My accessory collection is HUGE! But I gave into temptation & bought some more bead necklaces. I don't have many short ones so I thought I'd better remedy that.

Free Frock Friday

It's been a quiet week on the blogging front. Hopefully my mojo will return quick smart. I was given this 'Finlaw' frock for free when I purchased another one at a store in Brisbane called Sooki near West End. It had longer sleeves which I cut off & hemmed. It buttons down the front & has 2 lovely pockets on the hips. The fabric is a nice thick & stretchy polyester, which means I only get to wear it when it cools down a bit, which it is FINALLY doing here in Brisbane (much to my delight!).

Thrifted Finds & Saturday Night Fever

A little local church run op shop has become a favourite place to frequent. On my last visit I scored this old 'Crest' powder compact & matching lipstick holder for $2.50. It has a lovely red flower set in resin. It looks just like the set Nelly found here.

I also got these old magazines from the op shop for 20cents. Below is the first edition of McCall's Entertaining Ideas from 1969. It has decorating ideas, recipes, crafts & stories on how to buy the best china & crystal.

This one is called 'Home Dressmaking Guide', with sewing instructions for beginners, & some patterns by the Aussie designer Prue Acton.

I'm not sure why that boy is pointing a gun at the lady...maybe it was because he was made to wear that cheesy outfit!

1970's style table runner $1.

My hubby & I went to our dear friend Mr K's 40th birthday party at the weekend. It was a 70's party which really didn't mean dressing up for me seeing as I wear vintage most days. I wore a lime green crimplene frock from the USA, with a vintage crochet cardigan.

Here's a pic of my bestie Miss J & I both wearing green of course.

Frock Friday

I picked up today's frock from the Suitcase Rummage in Brisbane. I think I bought it for $3. I took the original sleeves off because it felt a bit more wearable without them. It kind of reminds me of something the always stylish Curtise wore here a while back. I teamed it with my ugly $1 op shop bag.

Spot the deer?

Hard to see on the frock, but I wore an old brooch from a garage sale for $2.

Say Cheese!

Those of you who are regular readers of VBG would know that I have recently started a vintage camera collection. I had two, & I always keep my eyes peeled for others. I found 3 old Kodak cameras at my local antique store for $5 each. I know Box Brownies aren't worth very much, but I adore their lovely style & simplicity. So now my collection stands at 5.....I can see a new obsession has begun! Now they sit happily together on my new thrifted shelves.
