Miss Polly Had a Dolly

I discovered my childhood doll when I was sorting through some stuff that's stored away. When I saw her I knew I had to bring her back into the light. I love her worn features, her up-do, but I'm particularly smitten with her frock. She's wearing a sweet pinafore over a dress, & it's all trimmed in glorious ric-rac. I think I probably appreciate her more now then I did all those years ago.

She sits on the bed of cushions, along with a hand knitted doll from an op shop.

Like a Moth to a Flame

I do love a bit of Sarah Coventry jewellery. I found this "Three Cheers" red, white & blue pendant which is from 1973. One of the plastic beads had come off so the lady at Vinnies gave it to me for free!

Here's a little history on Sarah Coventry jewellery....
Sarah Coventry jewellery was named after the granddaughter of Lyman K. Stuart, the founder of the company. Established in 1949, it is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. They did not design their own jewelry but used other manufacturers to produce their jewellery. Most of the production happened in the state of Rhode Island.

I was drawn to this odd horse & chariot brooch/pendant in gold with mother of pearl. It's quite a large statement piece.

Some dark green & black beads for $3. I'm not sure if it's bakelite, but someone is selling the exact same one as bakelite on Etsy for $160.

 Blue & white beads
And an Erstwilder brooch on sale for half price from the Collective Store

And naturally one needs somewhere to store all the bling....

Freddy Allen Frock Friday

I count this frock as a special one in my collection, but I've not worn it until now. I bought it from a vintage store on K-Road in Auckland (which is probably my favourite shopping destination) on our holiday last year. The brand is 'Freddy Allen' made in Auckland. It was only $5, because it had some stains along the hem & needed a seam repair. I figured I could take the hem up & repair the seam easily enough (well Mum could). I love the bow detail along the neckline, & of course I am a bit obsessed by the red, white & navy combo too. But most of all I love that it reminds me of a wonderful holiday with the Captain. Just your regular attire for monthly blood tests & brunch!

Odd Op Shop Finds

Here are some rather pointless random op shopped finds.

When I saw this lamp at Lifeline I could tell it was old by the plug & cord. It's gold brass on the outside with green glass inside, obviously oriental. It does give such a pretty green glow, perfect for my busy corner of the bedroom.

Lady Carol Frock Friday

It's the perfect time of year to wear my 'Lady Carol' frock that I bought off Etsy last year & posted about here. It came as a set with a matching jacket. It's a thick crimplene shift dress with a ILGWU tag (the International Ladies Garment Worker Union). The tag dates it to around 1974. There is some great info on Union tags at the Vintage Fashion Guild website.

Outfit Details.....

I wanted to post my 'Lady Carol' frock in honour of my dear friend Carol, who reads my blog & is one of the most amazing women you'll ever meet & such a blessing to so many, including me.
Thank you for your constant love, prayers & support.
 Love you! Xx
